With the recent icy weather, Year 3 explored why salt is often used on roads in winter. We carried out a simple experiment using two ice cubes: one sprinkled in salt and one without. We discovered that the ice cube with salt melted much faster! This happens because salt lowers the freezing point of water, making it harder for ice to stay frozen. Our experiment helped us to inderstand how salt keeps roads safer by preventing ice from forming.
