Investigating Rock Erosion.

Published: 19th Apr, 2024

Today we conducted an experiment to test if a liquid can disolve rock (chalk).   We learnt that chalk is made from the rock limestone (or calcium carbonate) and when an acid is combined with the limestone, a chemical reaction occurs and the gas carbon dioxide is formed. The reaction made the rock (chalk) become soft and eventually breaking it apart so it crumbled. This is called erosion. We discovered that flavoured sparkling water had similar acid content as vinegar.
