Education Minister’s Visit
The Education Minister, Mr Paul Givan MLA, visited St. John’s PS today.
The Minister was greeted by School Councillors, Principal Mrs O’Connor, Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Governors Mrs K McCallion and Mrs D McLaughlin.
The Minister visited our “Happy Haven” nurture provision and discussed the importance of holistic education with Miss A Murphy Vice-Principal, Ms C Duddy Nurture LSA, Ms F McMahon DE, Ms B McCann School Counsellor and Ms P Hegarty Education Psychologist.
Representatives from our Year 6 Shared Education classes discussed their engagement in collaborative learning with Lisnagelvin PS and the wonderful, showcase of their topic “Bridges.”
The Minister also engaged with Mr S Mullan, Mr N Carlin and children who participate in Cross Country and our school Football and Gaelic Teams. The significance of our Enrichment Programme was praised by the Minister, as a means of enhancing holistic, nurture, provision throughout the school.
Ms L Bonner and our award-winning school choir then performed “Lightning!” and “The Gaelic Blessing” for all attendees.
The Minister joined our Parent Development Programme, where he discussed financial management and online scams with parents. He also heard the parents many respectful and positive views on the education and pastoral provision within our school community.
