Children from ten Nursery schools and playgroups across the city were invited to St. John’s P.S. this week to meet their new teachers and learning support assistants for 2015/16. The new Transition’s Programme was facilitated by Mrs Devlin & Mrs Mc Gowan in association with Ms Emer McCallion from the Musical Pathways to Learning (MPL) team at the Education Authority Western Region. The sessions enabled the children to familiarise themselves with the school environment and their new classmates in an enjoyable, interactive setting based on songs, rhymes and games. The next stage of the Transition’s Programme will see the children and their parents engage in interactive ‘Stay and Play’ sessions in the Year 1 Classrooms with our current Year 1 children acting as ‘Buddies’ to the new children. The ‘Stay and Play’ sessions are scheduled for June.
