Alan Nash Voted as Finalist in the Derry Journal Sports Volunteer of the Year Awards!

Published: 20th Jun, 2024

Alan, our fabulous building supervisor, and Gaelic coach for St John’s PS, as well as  Na Piarsaigh Doire Trasna coach (but we will not dwell on that) has been selected as a finalist for the Derry Journal Sports Volunteer of the Year Award. No one deserves it more! Mr Mullan, Year 7 teacher and fellow coach for St John’s PS and Sean Dolan’s GAA Club nominated Alan and we are so pleased that he did.

Alan joined our staff in 2014 and immediately offered to coach the Boys’ Gaelic Team. In 2016, Mr Mullan came on board with the team and that was when this formidable duo, in association with Brian O’Donnell, really took our Gaelic football teams to new heights. Brian is our amazing local club coach at Sean Dolan’s GAA,

Our school community is so fortunate to have so many sporting opportunities for our children, as well as staff who devote their personal time and expertise to enriching the lives of our children and the wider community. Thank you also to Mr Carlin, Mr Ryan, Mrs McMullan, Mrs Lyons, Mr Shiels and the Ryan Mc Bride Foundation, all deserving recognition, for developing a transferable skillset, promoting health lifestyle choices, and building the character and confidence of our children in recent years.

We wish you every success at this event, but whatever the outcome Alan, you are the St John’s Sports Volunteer of the Year 2024!
