The Arts

At St John’s PS, the arts, foster joy and offer every child a creative voice. Through a rich mix of singing, playing, listening, performing, choral work, concerts, assemblies and musical theatre, our children discover a world of diverse styles. These activities build more than just talent; they cultivate confidence, teamwork, and imagination. Whether through daily learning or festive celebrations, the creative arts unite our community and inspire confidence in our children.

Literacy

We are committed to building strong foundations in talking and listening, reading and writing at every stage of the learning journey. By cultivating a vibrant reading environment and delivering high-quality literacy support, we ensure our children learn to love reading which ultimately helps them access all other areas of the curriculum.

Numeracy

We believe mathematics is an essential life skill. We empower our children to make sense of the world by developing their calculation, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Our classrooms are spaces where children feel confident to take risks, explore patterns, and explore their understanding of numeracy. Through a weekly focus on activity-based numeracy and collaborative learning, we encourage our children to think both logically and creatively as they discover the joy of numeracy together.

PDMU

PDMU empowers children with essential life skills through an engaging and supportive environment. Aligned with the Northern Ireland Curriculum and the Relationships and Sexuality Curriculum, it guides children as they navigate friendships, emotions, healthy living, and mutual respect. By fostering confidence and resilience through interactive discussions, the program helps children evolve into kind, thoughtful individuals who value both themselves, families and their community.
