Year 1 have been enjoying their new topic :The Farm.

The children in Year 4A were sorting 3D shapes, naming them and describing their properties.  

The children were so excited to watch the catterpillars change into chrysalis. We have placed them carefully into their butterfly habitat with oranges in case they emerge over the weekend 😊

Great job to all the children who showcased their talents and accomplishments during the assembly today!

Huge congratulations to our Stars of the Week on their excellent learning, behaviour, manners and determination. We are so very proud of you!

Today we welcomed Peter, to our school assembly, to tell us all about the Benemerenti medal which has been awarded to Mrs Kathleen Doherty by Pope Leo X1V. Kathleen was a highly respected teacher and vice-principal in our local community. She was also responsible for introducing Shared Education to our school in 2011. Kathleen has also shaped youth club provision for the children and young people of Creggan for over 50 years.  Kathleen is an extremely worthy recipient of this award and we at St John’s PS thank her for her years of dedication and service.

We were delighted that all our poems were published in this years 35th edition of the Young Writers book.  Well done to Ella,  she  won 1st, 3rd and a highly commended and Darragh won 2nd place in the Derry Feis. Finally, Myles was in Scotland at the ESF Festival of Football.  He captained his team and got awarded a beautiful silver medal.  A very proud teacher this week!

The St John's Digital Leaders had the most amazing session with the W5 Education Team preparing for the First Lego League competition in May. Thank you so much to Sean and Tiarnan for a fantastuc workshop. We cannot wait to get started on our builds.

3B have worked hard in school today. They started by reading each other recounts of their Easter holidays and then checked each others work for spelling and punctuation corrections. Later in our Maths lesson, they worked in groups to revise the names of 2d shapes. They then cut them out to find out what a half of each shape looked liked and learned to write this as a fraction. Well done!

4B had a really fun PE session today, we warmed up with our line dance and then we worked in teams to complete the circuit.
