Twenty years ago this month St. John's celebrated as our football team won the Northern Ireland Cup for the second time. Captain, Niamh McLaughlin, followed in the footsteps of our 1981 captain, Ann-Marie Ramsey ( Kennedy), by receiving the trophy on behalf of her teammates after a convincing 4-0 victory over Ballymacash PS from Lisburn. St John's took 2 busloads of spectators to the home of Moyola Park FC in Castledawson and they made their presence felt as they cheered on our team. On the day St. John's goals came from a Sean Rush hat-trick and a Cormac Burke thunderbolt.

Throughout the season St. John's remained invincible. We had won the Derry Schools' League before this NI Cup Final, and then went on to complete a historic treble with victory in the Derry Cup as well. En route to the NI Cup final St. John's overcame opponents from Counties Fermanagh, Down and Antrim as well as Derry, proving us to be worthy of the title Northern Ireland Champions.
