Personal Development and Mutual Understanding (PDMU)

Personal Development and Mutual Understanding focuses on encouraging each child to become personally, emotionally, socially and physically effective; to lead healthy, safe and fulfilled lives and to become confident, independent and responsible citizens, making informed and responsible choices and decisions throughout their lives.

At St. John’s P.S. we pay specific attention to personal and emotional development and to the health and safety of each child. We endeavour to develop a greater understanding of community and its interdependent nature. PDMU provides important and relevant contexts for the development of the Northern Ireland Curriculum.

Our involvement in the Shared Education Signature Project 2015-2018 provides our Year 5, 6 and 7 children with opportunities to integrate all aspects of PDMU into other curriculum areas such as TWAU, ICT, Literacy and the Arts. This project promotes relationships across communities and builds strong connections between and among children and how they inter-relate.

The programme makes a positive contribution to our school community and our local area learning community.
